Zimmer Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s wrong with the Zimmer Durom Cup implant?

A: X-rays of patients after total hip replacement surgery using the Zimmer hip implant show that, instead of bonding securely to the hip, the implant separates from and scrapes painfully against bone. In an email to colleagues, Dr. Lawrence Dorr, the widely respected orthopedic surgeon who first reported the problem with Zimmer hip implants, stated that a design flaw prevented the implants from being properly seated in the socket, leading to problems in over 5% of patients.
